Shaking Table

____________________________________________________________________

This laboratory is part of the
Structures and Materials department.
It began operations in 1997.
The laboratory is run by
M R Hernandez Roberto Duran.
It is located in the Building 9,
next to the Botanical Garden.
II UNAM. University City

SCOPE

This lab conducts studies of the dynamic response of structures.

ACTIVITIES

  • Study of the dynamic response of structural elements and systems.
  • Validation of structural concepts.
  • Development and validation of analytical models.
  • Evaluation and validation of the behavior of mechanical, electrical, electronic and communications equipment under earthquake loading.

MAJOR WORKS AND RECENT PROYECTS

  • Response of confined masonry models of one, two and three stories.
  • Dynamic response of a section of a column section of an elevated viaduct.
  • Response of a typical colonial temple.
  • Response of reinforced concrete walls.
  • Study of active control of the torsional dynamic response of a building provided with magneto-rheological dampers.

EQUIPMENT

MTS Systems Corporation shaking table with the following characteristics:

  • Three degrees of freedom.
  • Dimensions: 4x4 m.
  • Maximum weight of models: 20 t.
  • Maximum horizontal displacement: + / - 150 mm.
  • Maximum vertical displacement: + / - 75 mm.
  • Maximum horizontal acceleration: 1 g with a 20-t model on the table.
  • Maximum vertical acceleration: 1 g with a 20-t model on the table.
  • Frequency range: from 0.1 to 50 Hz.
  • Machine room with two piston pumps of variable flow.
  • Traveling crane with a 10 t capacity.
