The area of research in energy covers a wide range of studies, from renewable to traditional types of energy.. Included in the research are solar, biomass, wind power, oceans, and geothermal energies, which are important to reduce the negative effects of climate change.
Recent research has been primarily related to solar thermic energy.
This area also looks at methods to reduce energy consumption to contribute to the reduction of the greenhouse effect.
Some projects currently taking place at the Institute are: construction of a plant for the conversion of solar energy to mechanical energy using a steam expander, developing electric vehicles and hybrids, refrigeration by means of solar energy, designs of solar water heaters, design of photovoltaic systems, analysis of the process of desalination of seawater using renewable energy, design of a dual combustible system for gasoline consuming vehicles that reduces the requirement of octane, sonoluminiscence applied to the purification of water, and developing non-invasive methods for the detection of dissolved pesticides in water.
