Research in Housing is focused on design, system development, technological equipment and housing management. It involves the following steps: conceptualization and selection of the optimal option, integral design of sustainable housing developments, selection of materials, construction systems, analysis of the thermal and light behavior in a dynamic state, and the analysis of thermal and energy loads; detailed design of each architectural component taking into account the climate processes during construction and the integral design of the whole ensemble.
This research process involves testing and monitoring and, often, modifications to the original designs according to tests results. Sometimes, this procedure has to be repeated several times. Research in this area also extends to theoretical developments such as the elaboration of mathematical models, simulation, and optimization to build sustainable and bioclimatic constructions. Some of our representative projects are: an integral program for the design of energy efficient buildings, Bioclimatic Atlas of Mexico, official standards of energy efficient buildings, and green mortgages.
