Electronics and Instrumentation

_____________________________________________

This laboratory is part of the
Instrumentation Department.
It began operations in 1964.
The laboratory is run by
Ing. Rodolfo Peters Lammel.
It is located in building 12,
II UNAM. Ciudad Universitaria.

SCOPE

The function of the Electronics and Instrumentation Laboratory is the support of other departments with the instrumentation required for experimental analysis.

This lab also tests and calibrates displacement sensors, accelerometers, load cells and pressure cells.

ACTIVITIES

  • Measurements of stress on structural elements of the roof of the Olympic Pool and the Sports Palace.
  • Implementation of the Circular Track of the IIUNAM( Fernando Espinosa Laboratory).
  • Selection, installation and operation of data acquisition equipment for the Laguna Verde nuclear power project.
  • Design and construction of dynamic driver called Amplidina allowing for the realization of a large number of dynamic tests on structures as the Infiernillo dam.
  • Dynamic tests on reinforced houses that had undergone a strong earthquake in Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas.
  • Taking measurements of ambient vibration of the control tower, currently in operation, caused by the landing and takeoff of aircrafts at the airport Benito Juarez in Mexico City
  • In the project of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, vibration measurements were made in ore mills.

MAJOR WORKS AND RECENT PROYECTS

Instrumentation of the National Palace, where inclination and strains of the building due to subsidence was recorded by the laboratory. The electronic signal conditioning of inclination and deformation data was conducted, as well as the design of software for data acquisition and display.

EQUIPMENT

  • Dynamic excitation device controlled by a signal provided by analog records or recorded by a programmable oscillator.
  • Spectrum and logic state analyzers.
  • Oscilloscopes.
  • Data acquisition cards.
  • Multimeters (analog and digital), and function and pattern generators.
