The Institute of Engineering has created lines of research in the following electrical and electronic areas:

• Automatic Control: control, estimating, supervision or reconfiguration in dynamic non-linear systems with applications in biological and electromechanical systems under normal or faulty conditions.

• Power Systems: application systems for flexible AC transmission (FACTS). .

• Cellular Automata: modeling and stimulation of complex systems using cellular automata.
  

• Linguistic Engineering: text processing in natural language and integration of linguistics corpus.
  

• Optoelectronics: application of optoelectronic principles to design non-intrusive sensors for indirect measurement of material properties and advanced wastewater treatment.
