While computing has emerged as a discipline strongly associated with specific applications and engineering, the potential and rapid development of computing lead to the formal statement of problems whose solution required an abstract or theoretical knowledge, which gave rise to what today is known as computer science.

Thus, in the broadest sense, computer engineering is regarded as the discipline studying both theoretical and implementation aspects of information management and processing in all its forms.

In particular, the Institute conducts research in this branch of knowledge through the study of theoretical and implementation of tools that formalize data processing and its complex systems. The Institute contributes to technology resources for people by employing experts to apply and generate ideas related to information processing.
