This department supports the decision making process on the basis of current planning, consequences based on the objectives, and the evaluation and trends of the Institute. It pursues the involvement of all members of the Institute to be able to fulfill its objectives under optimal conditions.

It is fundamental for an academic, research-oriented and high education institution to plan for the future and to foster its academic development. The Planning and Academic Development Group was established to perform the following tasks:

1. To coordinate, design, and follow-up implementation and assessment of the Development Plan of the Institute of Engineering (PDII)

2. To analyze the efficiency of the institute based on information provided by the Academic Secretary as well as by other work groups in terms of the PDII and other sources. 

3. To look for future opportunities based on the society's need to improve the activities of the Institute of Engineering at UNAM.

4. To design strategies and guidelines to foster academic development of the Institute and to help implement the required actions.

5. To guide, follow-up and give the support required by academics in order to build and develop career plans.

6. To address academic issues submitted by the office of the director.
