This office does research work on infrastructure analysis, design and construction with the participation of 34 researchers, 36 academic technicians and 122 scholarship holders. It works with six other departments and units. Research includes analytical, numeric and experimental research work on dams, bridges, buildings, tunnels, roads, subway structures, electrical or gas distribution structures, ports, off coast structures, stacks, electrical sub-stations and machine rooms.

It includes instrumentation to analyze the structural health, seismic records and responses, soil deposits and sanitary landfills and slopes. Three examples of these studies are: Line 12 of Mexico City's subway, the East Sewage Tunnel (Túnel Emisor Oriente) that includes three federal entities and the Bicentennial Viaduct in the State of Mexico (Viaducto Bicentenario), with the participation of the departments of Structures, Geotechnics, Applied Mechanics, Seismic Engineering and Seismic Instrumentation with Transportation and Roads department studying rigid and flexible pavements.

There are ten labs: Rock Mechanics, Structures, Geoinformation, Geoteledetection, Construction Materials, Soil Mechanics, Shaking Table, Electronic Microscopy, Wind Tunnel and Transportation and Territorial Systems.
