The Institute maintains relationships with public and private organizations to solve common problems related to all areas of engineering. To legalize these projects they must be subject to a formal contract or agreement between a participant from the Institute and a participant from another organization, institute, or business. If there is a third party working on the same project, for example manual labor performed by construction workers, they must also be legalized by a formal contract or agreement.

This is characteristic of the Institute, and distinguishes it from other academic entities at the UNAM. This unit was created at the beginning of 2000 to legalize and formalize major projects.

Priorities:

  • To collaborate in drawing up contracts and agreements with the support of the Judicial Secretary of the Coordination for Scientific Investigation.
  • To formalize the completion of projects to satisfy and settle contracts and agreements.
  • To participate in the meetings of the Acquisitions, Leasing and Services Subcommittee of the Institute of Engineering.
  • To draw up contracts for providing services with the approval of the General Direction for Studies of University Legislation.
  • To draw up and keep track of the legalization of contracts that are established within the juridical and legislative segment of the university.
  • To guarantee the legality of these contracts and ensure they follow the proper procedure within the general guidelines set by the General Attorney Office and published in the Gaceta UNAM on June the 27th 2005.

The unit also has the authority to draw up contracts that are linked to projects sponsored by professors and researches within the university. This contract must be approved by the Purchasing and Services Department of UNAM and the Acquisitions, Leasing and Services requirements published in the Gaceta UNAM on April 5th 2001.

The exceptions in goods and services must be approved by the Acquisitions, Leasing and Services Department and must meet quality and reliability standards.
