Instrumentation

__________________________________________________________________________________

Until the late 70's, the current Instrumentation Department worked as an area of service and technical support to other departments of the Institute, including seismic instrumentation, geotechnics, hydraulic and mechanical, and thermal and fluids. Without limiting the support to other groups of the Institute, this area rises to the level of department from the pursuit and realization of a number of projects where automation and control are the main components.

The Instrumentation Department under the direction of Rodolfo Peters Lammel is part of the Electromechanics Head Office and is integrated by five academic technicians, four graduate trainees, a secretary and two administrative technicians. Four of the academic technicians have a bachelor's degree and one has a master's degree.

The Instrumentation Department has its facilities in building 12, including, a laboratory equipped with oscilloscopes, logic state analyzers, data acquisition cards, computers for data processing and a dynamic exciter with a maximum capacity of 2 kg for vibration dynamic tests electronic components and equipment.

The quality of the results of the projects comprising electromechanical and electronic equipment has encouraged the sponsorship of projects by different university departments and external organizations. Among the former, the School of Engineering, the Institute of Nuclear Sciences, the Institute of Cellular Physiology and the Department of Works may be mentioned.

The department also has a close relationship with the Federal Electricity Commission, which has supported the solution of specific problems and high-level training. The department has developed important projects for private companies: Kelvinator de Mexico, SA de CV, Valeo, SA de CV, Hayes Wheels Steel, Inc., Volkswagen de Mexico, SA de CV, Lemmertz and Hayes, Inc.
