Applied Mechanics

The Applied Mechanics Department is part of the Structures and Materials Head Office and was created in 1986. Its purpose is to perform theoretical and applied research, mainly in the areas of earthquake engineering and structural mechanics.

The department consists of seven researchers and two academic technicians, both researchers and technicians have doctoral degrees.

The department has 6 doctoral fellows, 24 with master's degree and five of the researchers and one of the academic technicians belong to the National Researchers System (SNI).

The reputation it has earned for the quality of their work permits its sponsorship by major institutions such as CONACYT, DGAPA, GDF, SCT, CFE, IMP and CNA. In 2008, the agreements signed with these and other institutions represented, in terms of revenue, approximately thirty-nine million pesos.

Its facilities are located in buildings 2 and 3 of the Institute of Engineering in Ciudad Universitaria.
